Position Overview:
Working under the supervision of an Engineer, researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems in areas including, but not limited to, mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, thermodynamic, structural analysis, or heat transfer for designs, production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines. Also under supervision, may evaluate and analyze various mechanical products to determine their cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Makes layouts of components, calculates stack-up of detail components, and prepares major cost studies consisting of new details and/or marked prints and all supporting documentation, when necessary, to facilitate operations and ensure that established objectives and budgets are achieved.
- Conducts design analysis on components and/or assemblies, when required, to ensure that designs are cost efficient, manufacturable, and reliable.
- Resolves design problems of moderate scope to ensure project completion.
- Prepares and carries out original or adaptations to designs and design changes necessitated by inadequate tolerances, general manufacturing problems, and/or customer requirements, to ensure that completed designs meet the established specifications.
- Designs new products and processes, and improves and maintains existing products to help create better products or processes and ensure that the current and future needs of the business are met.
- Designs major components or major portions of functional systems, technically advanced prototypes, and promotional or specific products using computer design and engineering systems.
- Develops or improves products and facilitates manufacturing operations.
- Develops data and makes layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals.
- Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost.
- Designs, develops and tests metallic or non-metallic structures or materials and their related fabrication processes for use in engineering designs.
Basic Qualifications:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
