Commonwealth Theatre Center's Blue Apple Outreach team seeks energetic Teaching Artists of MENASA heritage(Middle Eastern, North African or South Asian) to lead a virtual performance workshop called YOUR NIGHT OF DESTINY, in association with the audio-immersive experience, Zaynab's Night of Destiny, by playwright Denmo Ibrihim in spring 2022.
Ideal candidates will have a degree in Theatre or in a related field with a theatre minor/background who are passionate about teaching young people in diverse communities throughout the Louisville Metro and surrounding areas.

Please note that the 2 roles available are
- Zaynab, a 9 year old girl that immigrates from Egypt to Louisville.
- Issa the Goat, Zaynab's best friend/stuffed animal.
This is a part-time, contracted position. Work is offered based on outreach needs, determined by school partnership and availability. We are currently estimating 80 hours of rehearsal/training and between 75-150 performance workshops.
- Teaching Artists must have their own computer with reliable internet connection to conduct virtual workshops.
- Artists will be compensated at the rate of $50 per performance workshop (60 min) and $15 per hour for administrative tasks/training/rehearsals.
- Applicants will be required to pass a background check/screening to work with youth.
Teaching Artist Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
– Guided research of Zaynab's Night of Destiny by Denmo Ibrahim
- Rehearsal of a performance based lesson plan inspired by the text.
- Communicating in a timely manner with the Outreach Programs Manager to
confirm availability for workshops.
– Facilitation of Virtual Workshops with K-6th grades (most workshops will be
with 3rd-6th)
- Timely and courteous correspondence with classroom teachers regarding workshop expectations, assessment tools, and material collection.
To be successful in this role, you will be expected to demonstrate:
– Attentiveness to goals of the lesson plan
– Enjoyment of performing for and talking with young people in a playful and compassionate manner
- Ability to take ownership of assigned work and accountability for positive outcomes
– Strong collaborative and communicative skills
– A passion for arts education
– Multilingual, a plus
