Job Summary:
The main function of the Disability Administrative Specialist I is to provide administrative support for the department's management of disability claims including the set-up and distribution of new claims. Review disability claim information received on lower liability claims; administer low maintenance claims; provide responsive customer service to claimants, policyowners, and Benefits staff.
Job Responsibilities:
Set up new claim files, establish system records, analyze member eligibility for claims
Provide clerical support for the department teams management of disability claims, including copying claim files and other copy requests, fiche copying, sorting mail, filing documents in claim files, medical records requests, making member address changes and other tasks as needed
Maintain reserves on assigned low liability claims, including making timely follow-ups for medical information and updating system records when received
Monitor closed overpaid claims to resolution
Maintain claim file inventory for department teams by purging claim files and picking up and delivering files as needed from other areas Perform other tasks or projects as needed

Review documents for completeness and follow up to secure missing information; review claim facts and apply contract provisions accurately as they apply to new claims set ups and low liability claims
Working knowledge of Office equipment including word processor or personal computer
Basic knowledge of state and local laws and policies related to claim processing
Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent relevant work experience or demonstrated customer service experience; or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience
0-2 Years' Experience
